U9s Colts v Aller Park

On a wet and dismal day, the Colts' superb unbeaten run came to a halt as they came up against the club’s nemesis in Aller Park.

Shea failed a late fitness test which meant again the boys were playing with the bare seven players. A slightly improved start saw the game evenly contested, although yet again Wells looked the only team who were likely to put three or more passes together. The breakthrough for the visitors came with a soft goal poked in from a yard after a corner.

JoJo and Zack were as solid as ever and never looked like conceding from open play, but going forward Wells couldn’t quite get going in the first half, despite the normally potent Harry missing a couple of good chances.

Caleb and Louis worked extremely hard but in the sticky conditions it was the away side that scored next. Another scrappy goal which was tapped in from a yard despite Josh’s best efforts in goal. Aller’s goalkeeper showed his class on a number of occasions as the boys were often thwarted before half-time.

Josh was replaced by Caleb in goal, and went on to show great energy and some nice touches straight away as Wells really started to pass the ball in the opposition's half. Harry, Louis and Joshua linked up brilliantly, which ended in Josh shooting narrowly wide. In between ten substitutions in the second half, Wells managed to concede another scrappy goal as a clearance from Zak went straight into a striker's knees and ricochet into the net.

Eventually Wells got the goal they deserved as a lovely move was finished off Louis. Jaden found his inner tiger in the final quarter and drove his team forward but it wasn’t to be.

Despite the defeat it was another excellent performance against a resolute team. Perhaps the most pleasing part of the day was the way the boys handled losing their first game of the season, and the character they showed to keep giving every ounce of energy to the final whistle. Well done lads.

Man of the match: Josh - a huge impact on the right-hand side in the second half, linking up with Harry and Louis.
Goal: Louis
