Bristol City Ladies Academy U10s vs WELLS JPL

Wells JPL enjoyed a crushing victory over Bristol City girls, and kept their first clean-sheet of the season in the process.

The opening five minutes did not give any hint as to what was to come, with both sides struggling to bring the ball down and find any fluidity. But when Edwin latched onto a loose ball to fire home from long-range, the floodgates opened.

The second came shortly afterwards when Josh B sent a superb drop-kick in Noah’s direction, and he waited for the ball to sit up before volleying past the keeper. Noah then bundled in an Edwin corner to make it 3-0, before Ben sent Noah down the right channel with a fine pass - and he rounded the keeper before slotting home into an empty net.

A shot from Rory then somehow came back off both posts, but he wasn’t to be denied his 60th career goal for Wells; shortly afterwards he was well positioned to tuck home a left-footed finish from a Noah cross.

The second period carried on where the first left off, with Wells soon extending their lead. Alfie saw a close-range shot well saved by the keeper, only to fire home the rebound. Then it was Noah’s turn to reach a milestone when he smacked a fine volley into the top left corner to bring up his 300th goal for the club.

The City girls were by now struggling to get out of their own half, with Kosmo and Ben venturing further and further up the pitch and closing the door every time City tried to break forward. The endless pressure saw Alfie grab his second when he turned inside before firing into the bottom corner.

The final period saw Wells enjoy almost all of the ball, and it didn’t take long for another goal to come. Alfie played a lovely ball through to Noah, who slalomed around two defenders before slotting past the keeper. Edwin then crossed for Alfie to volley home his hat-trick at the far post, before Noah grabbed another after Alfie’s shot had been blocked. A corner was then cleared only as far as Rory on the edge of the area, and he took a touch before curling the ball into the corner.

Both Alfie and Noah came close several times in the final period to burying headers from a succession of superb corners by specialist Edwin, but the game was already over as a contest.

Goals: Noah (6), Alfie (3), Rory (2), Edwin
Man of the match: Impossible to pick when all the boys were at their peak. Almost the perfect team performance.
