WARRIORS vs Ash Rovers

The Warriors went to Ash Rovers with only 6 players available and although the opposition offered one of theirs to even the teams it was finally agreed to keep it 6v6 instead. A great decision in the end as the thumping victory could then be totally attributed to the Wells boys without question.

Isaac started brightly in what turned out to be a striking master class, forcing a save after a defensive mistake but he wasn’t going to be denied many more times in this match. Ash took an ambitious long range shot from the halfway line which went just wide, which was very much the story of the match as Wells weren’t going to be giving much away.

The familiar attacking trio of Isaac, Freddie and Ethan soon broke the deadlock as Freddie linked with Isaac on the wing who squared to Ethan leaving him 1v1 with the goalie and a simple side footed goal. A similar attack soon after bought the second goal, this time Freddie’s pass to Isaac struck in from a tight angle on the left. The third goal, another side footed 1v1 with the goalie from Ethan came after Freddie and Isaac worked a throw in well between them to centre the ball for their team mate. The quarter ended with Eddie as reliable as ever stopping all who came his way with perfectly timed tackles.

The second quarter started as the first ended, with Wells going straight at the opposition time and time again. After Eddie twice made piercing balls forward to Ethan a keeper’s save lead to an Isaac corner which after the keeper failed to hold the ball Ethan took a touch and smashed into the roof of the net with his left foot, sealing his hat-trick. More attacks came from the front three but the defence of Eddie and Louis P still had to stay on their toes and they were more than equal to all that came their way.

Another break down the left and a 1-2 between Isaac and Freddie saw Isaac make the goal shake with a thunderous curling shot and goal to the far post. Louis P was a vision of discipline while the shots flew in ahead, holding a perfect central defensive position on the half way line. He confidently snuffed out one Ash attack on his own, coming away with the ball and also took to a few long range cross field balls cutting the Ash defence in half perfectly. Alfie L took to a quick lie down at one point with nothing getting anywhere near him as Louis and Eddie dealt with it all. It was Eddie’s pass to Freddie that made for one of the goals of the game as Freddie took a mazy solo run from the halfway line ending with a shot too well hit to be saved.
The start of the third quarter saw Wells attack at their very strongest. The sight of Isaac, Ethan and Freddie running in a line of 3 at the goal was not just pleasing for the supporters but must be have terrifying to face as a defender! Inevitably Isaac took his hat-trick with a focussed finish, Freddie netted another at the far post from the left and he sealed his own hat-trick from the middle of the box – three quick well worked team goals.

Perhaps due to over-confidence the midfielders forgot their defensive duties for a time allowing Ash to have their first meaningful attacks of the game but ending in shots going wide. Louis P showed them how to defend though, seeing off two Ash attacks and also hitting another long cross field ball straight to Isaac who coolly finished again. Getting back to defend as was needed Ethan also hit a long ball to Isaac, who now full of confidence allowed the ball to roll off the outside of his boot and with a cheeky flick he span in the opposite direction to turn his defender. A moment of class nearly ending perfectly but his shot was saved, the defensive clearance however ricocheting of his back and into the net so he got the goal he deserved anyway.

Eddie now decided to get in on the action and after an Isaac shot was well saved he got one for the defenders and drove it in at the far post - to great celebrations from the rest of the team. The goal didn’t go to his head though, having to be called into defensive action straight away with Louis P – Ash now only having their first shot that Alfie L had to use his hands for.

With an unassailable lead the fourth quarter bought a few positional changes with Ethan going in goal, Eddie pushing into midfield and Alfie L taking his spot in defence. Isaac linked up with Freddie to shoot low and hard for his sixth before Alfie L now took his chance too. He pushed his way past two defenders to thunder in his strike, allowing him to finally show off the corner flag celebration he’s been talking about for weeks!

Knowing clearly where the goal was now Isaac’s next nearly touched every player in the team - Louis P’s run and cross started it, Eddie and then Freddie had a try before he finally finished. Immediately from the restart he then got another on the counter attack with a tidy finish from distance. He then ended his impressive hat-trick of hat-tricks at the second time of asking after a pass from Alfie L - a great striker’s performance.

Finally some real attacking pressure from Ash meant Ethan had to be called into action, a diving save and smother of the loose ball followed up with a key save. Ash’s attack had their supporters on their feet and voices raised for what look an inevitable consolation goal – for the shot at close distance to just stick to his gloves as if they had glue on them, cementing a clean sheet as the team deserved.

An amazing and comprehensive team victory, playing in a style that is a credit to their coaches and a thrilling watch for the supporters – well done boys!
