WARRIORS vs Ilchester Gladiators

The Warriors enjoyed a dominant win at Coxley to put right an undeserved defeat to the same opposition earlier this season.

Ilchester had narrowly beaten the Warriors back in September, largely thanks to the heroics of their goalkeeper, but were never really in the game this time around.

The Warriors were looking to set the record straight and immediately settled into pressuring the opposition goal. Good individual skills from Isaac and Freddie, together with good passing moves through a packed Ilchester defence, saw plenty of attacks for the Warriors, but the first-half ended with no goals on the scoreboard.

The Ilchester defence was so packed with players that it wasn't until they managed a few attacks in the third quarter that the Warriors were able to create space. The deadlock was broken by a sweet team passing move started on the left by Freddie, who passed it onto Isaac and he found Ethan who made sure with a firm shot in front of goal.

Shortly afterwards, Eddie - now playing in right midfield - had two strong shots in as many minutes. Another Eddie shot from the right was dummied in front of the keeper by Ethan, and Freddie got a toe on the trickling ball to divert it goal-wards. The keeper got to it but referee Tom B correctly judged it to have crossed the line to give Freddie his 30th goal for Wells.

The fourth quarter was again all Warriors, with Ilchester really only registering one shot of note, just wide to the left of Dylan's net. Alfie, now playing in midfield, sent in a customary good corner which Eddie followed up to send a high looping cross back into the box for Ethan to nod in the Warriors' first headed goal of the season and his tenth. The Warriors continued to attack, with shots from Alfie, Eddie and Isaac all close to adding a fourth goal.

The Bishop-Conway stand-in coaching duo were very happy with the effort and patience shown by the lads, and the belief they showed in themselves to keep plugging away without subs on a tiringly muddy pitch, particularly by Ethan, Isaac and Eddie, pressuring the Ilchester area until they got their well-deserved goals later in the game.

Goals: Ethan (2), Freddie
Man of the match: Josh - magnificent in defence, snuffing out all attempts to get past him. Together with Eddie and Dylan, he kept the defence so solid it allowed the Warriors to play in the Ilchester half for large parts of the match.
