Meeting The Challenge

Wells faced Aller Park at the Coxley Arena full of confidence after a string of good performances. However, Aller didn’t have to do a great deal to race into a two-goal lead as the Colts appeared to still be in bed for the first quarter. In fact, Josh had to be alert in goal to ensure Aller didn’t stretch their lead further.

Throughout the remainder of the game Wells were by far the better side, with Jaden starting to affect the game in midfield and Zak and JoJo setting up attacks from the back. Aller were indebted to their keeper, who made several saves before Louis toe-poked the equaliser early in the third quarter. Caleb and Dan worked hard for the team and, despite the odd chance not going their way, they showed great character to keep testing the Aller goalkeeper.

Wells grabbed a much-deserved equaliser as Jaden, who won the ball in midfield, found Louis who scored into the roof of the net from a tight angle. Four more great chances went begging before the final whistle, as Aller breathed a sigh of relief to hold on to a hard-earned draw.

The boys should be applauded for their consistency in recent weeks, and the odd flat performance is to be expected considering they are only 8/9 years old. After the first quarter they met the challenge set, which was to play better in each quarter than the last. That shows good character.
