Wells City U9s Colts (v Warriors)

Our autumn schedule ended fittingly with a derby between the Warriors and the Colts - who both contributed to an entertaining contest at Coxley School.
In the end it was the Colts who came out on top, though the Warriors saw plenty of the ball and could perhaps feel a little aggrieved with the eventual goal-scoring margin between the two teams.
It was the Colts who started strongest, Shea giving his team the lead early on with a powerfully struck shot into the bottom corner. The Warriors quickly equalised after good work from Isaac and Freddie led to Ethan blasting past Josh in the Colts goal. The leveller was followed by a period of Warriors' pressure, with a low shot from Freddie the best of the chances they created in that spell.
But it was the Colts who scored next; a strong run and cross from Caleb tapped home by Harry via the outstretched hand of an unlucky Alfie in goal. Harry was at it again shortly after, this time forcing home from close-range after a cross from Shea.
The Warriors nearly pulled one back at the end of the first period when Eddie latched onto Isaac's short corner and sent a looping long-range effort against the outside of the post.
Tom sent Louis C on for the second period and it didn't take him long to make an impact. He opened his account with a jinking run finished off by a neat shot into the far corner; and he grabbed a second shortly after half-time when he broke clear and finished well.
The Warriors refused to give up the ghost and pulled one back when Isaac blasted home a penalty after he had been fouled in the box. But the Colts were in the mood for goals, and added to their tally when Harry competed his hat-trick from a corner, before Caleb finished well into the far corner. There was still time for Shea to complete his hat-trick with two well-taken goals to add a gloss to the scoreline that was perhaps a little harsh on the Warriors. They battled well against a Colts side who finished with a 100% record from their five matches and are clearly in great form.
Both sides have come on leaps and bounds in the season's opening block of matches and all the coaches are full of optimism for the challenges ahead.
