Just Edged

Wells JPL were just edged out in a physical encounter on a frustrating afternoon for them in Yate.

Despite coming up against what was expected to be their toughest competition yet on a day they were missing their talismanic frontman and the league's top scorer, Wells came out of the blocks on fire. Good team pressing in all areas saw the football being played in the opposition's half for most of the initial exchanges. This brought dividends when Louis opened the scoring with a fine low finish from a quick through ball.

To their credit, Bristol soon settled back into the game and got a couple of goals from decent interchange play deep in our half. Wells' heads didn't drop however, and the second period of the game was capped off by an outstanding 'worldie' from Kosmo. Our Finnish rock at the back intercepted a Bristol through ball, stepped forward into the space and launched an unstoppable rocket right into top bins!

Both teams had decent chances to score further goals, with Bristol wasting opportunities or choosing wrong options when getting near our third, and with Wells being thwarted by some decent one-on-one saves and fine handling from the brave Bristol goalkeeper.

Bristol threatened again before Josh pulled off a fine stop in the final third. They soon extended their lead, however, as we weren't able to match their power in midfield when they broke through and caught us losing our shape in the rush to get back goalside.

The scoreline flattered Bristol at that point, but Alfie wasn't having any of that as he strode through and buried a great effort to give Wells another deserved goal.

The lads should be proud of their efforts against a strong, streetwise team, as they matched them in many departments and on another day could have snatched the win.
