Mature Performance At Coxley

Wet and windy conditions did not prevent the Colts producing a mature performance in their first match played at Coxley.

The boys showed they have been listening in training and looked the more composed, accomplished team from the start. Louis scored to give Wells the lead in the first quarter after the ball rebounded off the post following excellent work from Harry.

Wessex had plenty of attacks themselves, but wonderful defending by JoJo and Zak, and safe hands from Josh, kept the lead intact.

Ben, Shea and Harry all looked dangerous in the second quarter as Wells played confidently, almost extending their lead on numerous occasions until finally Harry poked in from a corner. The game ebbed and flowed and Wessex roared back with two quick-fire goals to tie the game at two a piece. It was then that the Colts showed the strength of their defending and new-found composure to keep passing the ball.

Brave play from Jaden and Ben started a lovely passage of play that saw the ball fall to Louis five yards out, and he finished calmly to give Wells what turned out to be the winning goal.

During the final quarter both teams squandered good chances and Wells had Josh to thank after producing a fine diving save in the dying embers of the match.

Both sets of players deserve great credit for the way they played.
