Wells City A continued their fantastic star t to the season with another fine winning performance on Saturday against Chilcompton Reserves.
A lively opening ten minutes saw Wells create a handful of chances but it was Chilcompton who took the lead. Wells keeper Aaron Phipps did well to get down and save a fierce shot but unfortunately Chilcompton slotted home from the rebound.
Wells dusted themselves off and responded immediately. A fantastic cross from Stefan Wasmuht on the right wing found the head of Ryan Pledger who out-jumped everyone to equalise for Wells. Chilcompton were the better team for the remainder of the first half, but the two teams went into half time level due to a solid performance from captain Ben Warren and his fellow defenders.
A positive team talk and few tactical tweaks from the Wells management duo saw their team come out determined to seize control of the game. This lead to eventual man of the match Tyler Cornish and his midfield partner Toby Clark winning the midfield battle with a dominant performance. With Cornish and Clark pulling the strings, Wells took the lead through a well taken Wasmuht header. With new found
confidence Wells soon scored again with a top class finish fr om Ryan Pledger, cutting in from the left hand side on to his right foot he unleashed an audacious effort from outside the box which curled into the top right corner of the net. Not one to be outdone by his strike partner, Wasmuht showed great strength to shake off his marker and get a shot away from twenty five yards which flew into the bottom left corner of the goal making it seven goals in two games for the in-form striker.
Wells added a fifth in injury time through Jake Cornish, who muscled his way into the box and finished from close range.
Next up for Wells City A, a tough away trip to Alcombe Rovers in the Junior Cup.
