Promotion push still on

Wells kept the pressure on in the race for promotion from Somerset County League Division 2 West with an emphatic win over Worle on Tuesday.

The game was all but over after ten minutes as City built up a 3-0 lead. Ryan Crowther scored with two early headers and Dan Catley added a third goal as Wells produced arguably their best opening 45 minutes of the season.

Wells added a fourth early in the second half when Darren Maynard did well to turn a defender in the box before firing a superb effort wide of the keeper.

The final third of the game was all about penalties as Dan Catley scored his 15th goal of the campaign when the hosts were awarded a spot-kick, while Worle were twice given the chance to score from 12 yards as Martyn Sheppard and Ben Higgins were penalised.

Mike Roper was beaten by the first but did well to save the second penalty.
