Wells travelled to Glastonbury for the second time in a week to replay this crucial league match following the floodlight failure the previous Tuesday, which was abandoned with 8 minutes to go with Wells leading 2 – 1.
In blustery conditions on a hard pitch the ball was difficult to control for both teams. Wells began looking tired after playing only 2 days previous in the Somerset Senior Cup Final, and Glastonbury began to probe. On 15 minutes the home side took the lead when a corner was hit deep into the Wells box and all the defenders appeared to ball watch and the ball was poked home. This sparked Wells into life and they began to get back into the game but that all important ball into the box just wasn’t good enough and for all their possession they just couldn’t get the ball in the net. With a minute remaining in the first half Ryan Crowther knocked a ball into the feet of Kieran White 30 yards from goal and White flicked the ball up with his left foot and hit an unstoppable shot on the half volley into the top corner of the net.
The second half continued in much the same vein with Wells unable to get the all important winner. Glastonbury looked quick on the break but they were dealt with well by Joe Grant, Martyn Sheppard and Dan Barker. With 10 minutes remaining a Grant long throw was missed by the Glastonbury keeper and White nodded home from close range. Wells saw out the final 10 minutes to get the victory and put themselves in the driving seat for promotion.
