Reserves suffer defeat at home

Wells entertained Shirehampton on the back of a good win at home to Clevedon United on Saturday, and came unstuck against an energetic and organised side that belied their league position.
The visitors had the first chance of the game as early as the 6th minute when a long ball deceived the Wells defence and a quick shot on the turn seen Steve Coppell have to parry the ball out for a corner. Wells then began to press and were unlucky not to take the lead on 12 minutes when a deflected diagonal cross field ball by Jake Brown just eluded the advancing Luca Hiscox. Wells finally took the lead on 39 minutes when a trade mark James Russell free kick into the box seen Brown bundled over to give the home side a penalty. Steve Emery stepped up and placed the resulting kick into the net. The lead was short lived, as 6 minutes later Shire equalised, again another deep ball into the box which was coolly finished.
The second half started in much the same vain with the Shire team giving Wells no time on the ball, closing them down at every opportunity. This resulted in Wells making silly mistakes and unable to create any chances of their own. Shire were 3-1 up by the 70th minute with 2 clinically taken chances, which left Coppell no chance with either. The Wells players rallied and on 84 minutes got a goal back when a Brown fee kick was hit to the far post where substitute George Carey was advancing, to bundle the ball home. This was little too late and the visitors held on for the victory.
