1-0 win and a clean sheet a bonus

Wells Reserves travelled to Fry Club hoping to improve on Saturday’s 5-0 defeat at the hands of Nailsea and Tickenham, and they did exactly that, coming away with a 1-0 victory.
Wells started the brighter of the two teams on a perfect playing surface for good flowing football, but both teams seemed to cancel each other out with no clear chances in the first 20 minutes. Wells then had two or three good openings with superb crosses into the Fry’s box only to see no Wells player on the end of it, much to the frustration of the management team. The back three of Charlie Crook, Martyn Sheppard and new signing Ben Warren were resolute and snuffed out any danger from the Fry front line. The deadlock was finally broken when good work by Luca Hiscox saw Sam Andrews turn in the box and hit a low shot which the home custodian could only parry into the bottom corner.
The second half continued in much the same vain, with young Brad Phillips in the Wells goal only having one notable save to make. The midfield five of Nick Beales, Nathan Truckle, Luke Plunkett, Luca Hiscox and Steve Emery worked tirelessly throughout. The last 20 minutes seen Fry’s pile on the pressure without really troubling the defence and Wells were guilty of not taking their chances, George Carey, who replaced Ryan Pledger, not controlling a through ball when one on one with the keeper and then Steve Emery miss kicked a shot when it looked easier to score. Dan Catley and Jordan Bazley replaced Plunkett and Andrews for Wells to see out the final minutes and take all three points.
Man of the match – Charlie Crook
Manager Arron Wickham said after the game, “That was a great response from the lads after the 5-0 defeat on Saturday, and to keep a clean sheet is particularly pleasing. Every player played their part.”
