Conditions play a part

On the back of the mid week win Wells Res looked to pick up more points in this tough fixture

Weather conditions were wet and windy and this had an impact on the standard of the game.

Though Wells started brightly again and took the lead on 4 minutes. Some great play on the left from Sam Andrews saw his cross and a step over dummy in the box by Charlie Moon making his full debut set up Scott Hurley to tap in at the far post to put Wells 1 - 0 up.

Wells suffered an immediate response from Winscombe as a pass down the right opened up the defence and a cross into the box had striker Mike Flint free of his marker shoot past the helpless keeper Steve Coppell in the Wells net to make it 1 - 1.

Wells continued to try and play as they have done all season and looked to dominate possession in worsening conditions. Again some good work by Andrews on the left into Charlie Moon set up Dan Poore at the far post only for him to shoot wide. Poore had another chance just a few minutes later, as work from Ross Padfield into Andrews whose cross was met by Poore only for him to head wide of the post. Sam Andrews continued to get some joy on the left was able to set up George Carey whose 20 yard shot went wide of the far post.

Charlie Moon started to find some clear areas and troubled the home defence with his movement, setting up Charlie Crook and Scott Hurley with chances. Moon found some space on the right and working around the edge of the box shot straight at the keeper.

As the rain fell the ground became more difficult to control of the ball and both teams became more reliant on playing the long ball.

HT 1 - 1

The second half began as the first finished with both teams finding the front men free on a number of occasions. Winscombe continued to trouble Martyn Sheppard, Lee Lester, Ben Higgins and Andrews in the Wells defence with the long ball up to the centre forwards, with some last ditch defending keeping the scores level.

Wells combination of Moon and Hurley with support from Carey also started to create some long range shots without success. Charlie Crook and Padfield dominated the midfield and it looked like Wells would eventually brake through, though Winscombe were thinking a little differently and continued to stay in the game, eventually scoring against the run of play.

Wells lost the ball in midfield and Winscombe punished them by taking the lead. As the ball was crossed into the box, Flint was on hand again to steer the ball past Coppell to make it 2 - 1 to the home side

Substitute changes to Introduce James Russell, Dan Catley and Jordan Bazley freshened up the attack but proved to have little change to the result. Wells Res now face a tough trips to Burnham and Minehead looking to pick up some crucial points, thank you to those supporters who braved the conditions.
