Wells Res win away

Wells Reserves traveled to local rivals Glastonbury for this re arranged midweek fixture.

Wells started brightly with some attacking play which opened up the home defence in the first few minutes. With some smart work on the right from Jordan Bazley and Dan Catley, Catley's cross into the box was met cleanly by Ryan Pledger who's header found the top of the net to put Wells one up on 5 minutes.

Wells continued to attack with a chance falling to the feet of Scott Hurley who shot wide. Well's attitude to the game remained positive and they were unlucky not to extend the lead through shots from Pledger and Hurley.

Glastonbury showed some fight and created chances from set pieces with consecutive corners from both sides, with a cross from the right being met by Glastonbury head which had Steve Coppell in the Wells goal under pressure but he saved comfortably.

Pledger opened up the home defence and his cross was met by Ross Padfield who header over from close range, the cleanest chance of the half was created in the 35th minute, when good work by George Carey on the left delivered a perfect cross only for Dan Poore to fire over the bar.

The away defence marshaled by the consistent partnership of Martyn Sheppard and Ben Higgins to hold out till halftime.

HT 0 - 1

The second half started in the same vain with Wells on top in possession and play and forced a number of chances, but had to rely on the goal keeping skills of Coppell in goal to keep the clean sheet.

The appearance of new signing from Glastonbury Charlie Moon ignited the away attack with his pace, though shots on the home goal from Carey and Poore didn't trouble the score sheet and with some last ditch attempts to take control of the game, Glastonbury went down to 10 men as the tackles increased in this local derby.

With not many clear opportunities, Glastonbury looking to equalise pushed the home keeper up for a string of corners but the Wells defence held firm for a deserved win that helps the points total to take them over the promotional line.
