Wells reserves took to the field in the first floodlit game of the season in great form with a chance to go back to the top of the league.
However, after a lively start and chances at both ends, the game took a cruel twist with a horrific head injury to Ross (Rosco) Padfield.
The game was held up for over 40 minutes whilst club officials , players and family assisted Ross until medics arrived.
After the halt to the play, all players wished the game to continue and Wells took full advantage.
With first half goals from James Baskett and Ryan Pledger Wells went in at half time 2-0 up.
A reply from Portishead early in the second half pulled a goal back, making it 2-1, however with the Introduction on Zak Hall and Dan Poore a further 3 goals from Hall (2) and Ollie Bryant killed the game off.
