Well's dominated a relatively uneventful first half. The 45 minutes featured a Wells team that was camped within the Portishead half but was unable to produce a serious goal threat. A 30 yard effort from Dan Catley in the 27th minutes was the highlight but this didn't trouble the Portishead keeper as it sored well over the bar.
The introduction of 2 half time subs from Portishead seemed to alter the game and the home side started to play with real intent. Despite the flurry of activity, Wells still had the best of the early play although the first serious chance was gifted to James Clarke(Portishead) in the 55th minute after a defensive mistake. He picked up the ball on the Portishead right wing , entered the box and shot low and forced a good right handed save from Mike Roper.
The 64th minute saw James Clarke involved again as he picked up a pass from Will Price. Looking up, he played a fantastic cross field ball into open space on the right wing which was met by a well timed run from right back, Ben Davies. His shot forced Mike Roper to push wide for a corner.
The ensuing corner was swung in an saw a header from Adam Wellen cleared off the line by Zach Hall at the right hand post. This clearance only made it as far as Will Price who made sure with a powerful strike into the top corner.
Wells made a positive response to the setback and piled the pressure on the home team- Ollie Bryant made 2 shots on target within only a few minutes.
The 68th minute saw another great chance for Portishead- Will Price played a great ball beyond the Wells defence and a perfect run by Will Cook down the left wing ended with a powerful shot then was just inches over the Wells bar.
Wells continue to put the pressure on and in the 72nd minute, Ollie Bryant picked up the ball 10 yards into the Portishead half on the left. After a incisive run down the left, he crossed and the ball found it's way to Zach Hall at the back post. He played the ball back into Scott Hurley in the 6 yard box who beat the keeper with a cheeky back heel.
Chances flowed for both teams as they chased a decisive winning goal. The best chance fell to Portishead sub, Matt Jones. After his introduction in the 75th minute, his pace created trouble for the Wells defence. His run at goal just minutes later ended in a 20 yard shot that forced an athletic save from Mike Roper.
A draw was probably the correct result in hindsight- but both teams will have left thinking of what might have been"
