Wells travelled to Congresbury knowing nothing but a win would keep the pressure on the leading teams for a promotion place and with their opponents still in contention.
The first half was a very even affair with both sides unable to play pretty football on a wet and tricky pitch, the first chance falling James Russell who hit a free kick on 2 minutes wide of the left hand post. Congresbury had a chance to open the scoring on 15 minutes, but the No9 could only drag his shot wide of Mike Roper’s upright. Half Chances were the order of the day with neither keeper having a noteworthy save to make until 5 minutes before half time when good work by Arron Wickham found Ryan Crowther down the left flank and his cross was met by Darren Maynard, whose header was straight at the keeper from 5 yards out. 2 minutes later Crowther had an identical chance with the same result.
Within a minute of the restart, the hosts took the lead when several missed tackles seen the ball whipped into the box and the striker swung a foot and buried the ball in the bottom corner. Wells then took hold of the game and 10 minutes later were back on level terms when a long kick from Roper was latched onto by Maynard who used his pace and got his shot away which took a deflection and eluded the Congresbury keeper to make it 1 – 1. Wells then had a goal disallowed, when Ashley Crowther went on a run and rode a rash challenge and found substitute Kieran White, who finished well only for the home lineman to flag for offside. The referee then brought play back for the original foul. The winner came in the 88th minute, a great move down the right saw White play Charlie Crook in on the overlap and the midfielder got an inch perfect cross in which was met by Ryan Crowther ‘s head and the midfielder made no mistake burying it in the bottom corner to take all 3 points.
