And a clean sheet

Wells went into this local derby on the back of two defeats which had meant their promotion push had stuttered, so it was important to put in a solid performance and come away with a win.
Wells had the first chance of the game as early as the fourth minute when a long through ball was met by the advancing Haines in the Street goal who could only head clear as he found himself outside the box but Ryan Crowther’s goal bound shot was caught by the back pedalling keeper. A minute late Street had the chance to break the deadlock when Mike Roper made a save but was unable to hold the ball and it fell to Coppell whose shot was brilliantly blocked by Jordan Bazley. Wells had a goal disallowed on 20 minutes when a Ryan Crowther corner was flicked on by Steve Emery at the near post and Bazley fired home only for the referee to consult the linesman after pressure from the home players and disallow the goal for offside. Street then had another chance when a cross field ball was met by the No9 but his goal ward header came off the inside of the post. On 35 minutes the deadlock was broken when good work from George Carey seen the ball fall to Emery who side footed into the bottom corner. 2 minutes later Wells’ dominance paid off when Ryan Crowther showed a turn of pace down the left before cutting inside the defender before drilling the ball across goal and in Haines’ attempt to make the save the ball deflected in off the advancing Scott Hurley.
The second half started in very much the same vein and with just a minute into the half Carey could have put the game beyond doubt when he found himself one on one but the striker blazed his shot over the bar. 10 minutes later he made amends when he met a Crowther cross with a deft flick with the outside of his right foot and looped his shot over the stranded keeper. Wells were creating chances at will but still couldn’t find that killer touch. The game was finished as a contest after 70 minutes when Charlie Crook scored the goal of the game, Emery crossed in from the right and it was cleared by a defender but Crook hit the clearance, turning on the volley hitting his shot into the top corner.
