And into Round 3

Wells progressed into round 3 of the Somerset Senior Cup after defeating fellow Premier division side Staplegrove by the odd goal.
Staplegrove started the brighter of the two sides closing Wells down at every opportunity and winning almost every second ball but they couldn’t convert their dominance into goals with Steve Coppell not having to make a notable save until the 20th minute turning a goal bound effort effort over the bar from the Grove No10. Wells then started to play some neat football but with no real end product, with both sides cancelling each other out.
Wells came out int the second half with a lot more purpose about their play but were guilty of not getting on the end of the final ball. Wells broke the deadlock on 60 minutes when the Staplegrove keepers poor clearance went straight to the feet of Luke Plunkett, who calmly slotted the ball into an empty net from 20 yards out. Wells continued to create numerous chances but couldn’t increase their lead, with both lady luck and the odd good save coming to Staplegrove’s rescue.
Man of the match – Luke Plunkett
Assistant Manager Barry Maynard said after the game, “Over the ninety minutes we deserved the win, but we have to learn to take our chances and kill teams off when we have that much possession in the final third”
