In this 1st round 1st leg Premier/Division 1 Cup tie, Wells fielded a depleted side due to 1st team call ups and holidays, but there performance was still ok in patches. Timsbury visited the Athletic ground hoping to avenge last seasons semi final defeat to Wells.
Timsbury had the first chance as early as the first minute when a direct free kick just cleared the Wells bar. Wells' first attempt on goal came in the 27th minute when Ryan Morris pulled his 25yard shot wide of the upright. on 37 minutes a long kick from George Voicu cleared the Timsbury defence and was latched onto by Kieran Padfield but just as the striker was about to unleash a shot a Timsbury defender got a foot in to clear. On 44 minutes a cross from Ryan Crowther was met by the oncoming Dan Poore, who skied his shot over the bar. Timsbury took the lead on the stroke of half time when some slack marking was capitalised on by the Timsbury number 7, who turned and hit his shot through the legs of the advancing Arron Wickham and into the corner.
The second half was very much in the same vane as the first with neither sides keeper having to make a noteworthy save. Wells were forced into a reshuffle when Fabio Ramos got injured and was replaced by Ashley Crowther. Within 5 minutes Crowther had made two important interceptions. Voicu's distribution was excellent but Wells were still unable to break down a resolute Timsbury defence. On 80 minutes Wells had their best chance of the game when Dan Poore turned in the box and chipped a lovely ball over the keepers head only to see it crash off the cross bar to safety. Then with a minute to go Steve Emery had a thunderous shot well saved by the Timsbury keeper to give Timsbury a slender 1-0 victory to take into the second leg in three weeks' time.
