Unbeaten run continues

It was never going to be pretty and this was surely a game for the neutrals as the score line suggests!

Cutters having the lions share of the first half, had an opportunity to take the lead with a penalty, Peter Vowles was guilty of fouling the Cutters centre forward in the box. The Penalty however, was saved by the 'Cat Like' reactions of keeper Mike Roper. The 'Nine Lives' were short lived though as within 5 minutes Cutters took the lead with a well placed free kick that found the head of the unmarked forward. Wells had their opportunities also with White, Maynard & Edwards all having opportunities. Just before the break Wells equalized as Ollie Edwards was brought down just outside the box, he dusted himself off to hit a low free kick towards goal which the keeper saved only to parry to the oncoming Charlie Crook who smashed home for his first goal in two years.

The Second Half started in 'Monsoon Like' Conditions and the football being played was not for the purists. Cutters scored direct from a corner which gave them the lead again, as the centre forward headed home from close range. Not to be outdone Wells again equalized as Vowles, making amends for his earlier misdemeanor, provided a sublime cross for Edwards to volley home. Wells were now in the ascendancy and took the lead for the first time as Ollie Bryant provided a pinpoint cross which found the head of Kieron White to force home. With the away side now taking the control and the home side starting to tire, Wells introduced Pledger, Catley & Hurley into the affray. This was meant to give Wells the added energy to see the game through, however this was not to be as Pledger in his eagerness to take a throw-in, just inside the opponents half was miss-controlled by the oncoming player, Cutters took full advantage to hit Wells on the counter attack and scoring through quick interplay. The Wells were dealt a major blow as White could no longer carry on as he lined up to shoot, his leg tightened and locked forcing Wells to finish the game with ten men. This knock back seemed to have a diverse effect on the away team, with a man down they took the game to Cutters and finished the off as Ryan Pledger hit the winner with a fierce drive just inside the area to give Wells the spoils and the opportunity to progress to the next round of this competition.
