Wells City FC 4-2 Oldland Abbotonians
Wells returned to the league programme on Tuesday night by entertaining oldland Abbotonians after the disappointment of losing in the FA cup on Saturday.
Wells were hoping to gain 3 points against Oldlands who started the game just below Wells in the league, the visitors started well with a freekick being hit straight at keeper Ben Dancey and a break down the right brought another save from Dancey which was finally cleared by Ross Padfield for a corner, Wells then broke down the right with great play from Oli Bryant and the hard working Jamie Howson the ball being played to Dan Williams who crossed for Jason Loxton to score the opener for Wells on 10 mins 1-0 Wells, both teams had half chances with Ryan Crowther and Dan Williams coming close, but it was Oldlands that scored next as a miss clearence from Wells went to the Oldland striker whose shot gave Dancey no chance 1-1, Oldlands almost got a second but for a save by Dancey but it was Wells who scored again when Mark Randall curled in a 25 yard freekick on 30 mins, Harry Lewis then came close with a freekick which just went wide, Wells then started to play with confidence and great play from Steve Sokol and Dan Williams set up Jason Loxton whose shot went just over, another attack from Oldlands brought out another save by Dancey to keep the score at half time 2-1 Wells.
Wells started the second half as they had finished the first with Mark Randall scoring his 2nd and Wells' 3rd with another 25 yard freekick on 48 mins 3-1 Wells, another freekick into the box by Harry Lewis was headed on by Dan Williams and tipped over the bar by the visiting keeper, Williams had a chance to extend the score with a great shot on the turn just going over the bar after good build up play from Ryan Crowther and Jamie Howson, Wells then changed personel with Crowther and the hard working Ross Padfield being replaced by Billy Manning and Francis Rolli, more good play from Wells down the left by Steve Sokol and Billy Manning allowing Francis Rolli to clip the ball from 35 yards over the keeper for 4-1 Wells on 75 mins, Wells then made thier final change with Liam Orchard replacing Jamie Howson up front, Oldlands then scored thier 2nd after a through ball was tucked home by the forward 4-2, Wells defended well with clearences from Charlie Crook and Harry Lewis earning Wells a deserved 3 points.
Coach Aaron Wickham said we played better tonight than on Saturday,Harry lewis and Charlie Crook playing well in the centre with Oli Bryant and Mark Randall defending the flanks, we did make a couple of misstakes which lead to goals but on the hole we did well, again scored some good goals our attacking play was better, Jamie Howson ran his socks off for the squad, a good all round performance in midfield stopping most attacks and Dancey was thier when needed in goal, this will hopefully give us confidence going into our next game away on Tuesday at Portishead.
