Wells City 3 - 2 Bodmin Town
Wells cup run continues as they beat the visitors from Bodmin Town in the preliminary round of the FA cup.
Wells started slow again this week letting Bodmin have alot of the ball and attacking the Wells goal, but Mike Roper was commanding in his area collecting any crosses that came his way, Wells then played some good footbal down the left with Ryan Crowther crossing into the box but unable to find a Wells attacker, Bodmin then opened the scoring from what should have been a freekick to Wells for a high foot the referee waved play on and the midfielder chipped the ball over Mike Roper for 1-0, This seemed to kick Wells into life as they started to play the ball around with a bit more confidence, Billy Manning coming close with a long range attempt, Tom Manning then sent a shot wide after good work from Jason Loxton, 0n 35 mins Wells equalised through a Tom Manning header after a great cross from Mark Randall on the left was guided into the top corner by Manning 1-1, Wells then had a penalty shout (which only the ref didnt see) waved away, Wells then added to the scoreline on 45 mins with a well taken goal from Jamie Howson who took a pass from Ryan Crowther turned and hit the roof of the net 2-1 Wells as the half time whistle goes.
Bodmin came out strong after the break and a misstake at the back Wells conceded a penalty which Bodmin converted 2-2, Wells then had a chance to go a head after a great cross was met by Jason Loxton who hit the side netting, Mark Randall then had a freekick well saved by the visiting keeper Jamie Howson followed up and his effort went just wide, Bodmin then broke down the middle and sent their forward free but a great last ditch tackle from Charlie Crook stopped him from scoring, Stand in manager Aaron Wickham then brought on Toby Cole for Billy Manning on the right to try to get behind the Bobmin back line, Jamie Howson was then replaced by Francis Rolli up front, Wells then had a corner on the left which was well cleared by Bodmin but the ball fell to Mark Randall 25 yards out and he hit it with his trusty left foot into the bottom right corner for 3-2 Wells on 85 mins, Ryan Crowther was then replaced by Craig Rimmer to pack the the midfield, a long goal kick from Mike Roper cleared everyone and fell to Toby Cole who shot at goal but was well saved by the keeper, Wells then ran the clock down for a well deserved 3-2 win.
Supporter Dave Williams said after the game, we started slow but our fitness showed in the end, we deserved the win and for the old boy Mark Randall to get the winner was fantastic what a strike, i expected more from Bobmin after they beat us on their last visit to Wells, but today they let Wells play our game and we wanted it more than them.
Man Of The Match was Mark Randall award sponsored by Rose Brunt presented by Ron Burr.
