A team smash 8 pasted High Littleton.

The 1st round of the charity cup saw Wells A having to travel up the A39 to play a High Littleton side who sit mid table in the 1st division. In blistery conditions, Wells played some of the best football of the season and eventually ran out 8-1 winners.
The conditions made life really difficult for the visitors in the 1st half, with the back four and the goal keeper Bradley Phillips really having to be at their best to battle against the wind. With no alternative but to keep the ball down, Wells took the lead as Luke Plunkett raced through, keeping his head and rounding the goal keeper to open his account for the season. Moments later High Littleton got themselves back into the game after an excellent free kick from wide on the right was deflected passed Phillips by the unlucky skipper Bailey Waterhouse. At this stage, the hosts really piled on the pressure, with the wind behind them they began to take control. Just before half time, the High Littleton striker turned and struck a fearsome effort goal wards. As the ball gathered pace in the conditions, Phillips produced an excellent save to tip the ball over the cross bar. The resulting corner was cleared and Wells broke, with Plunkett racing through once again. Unselfishly he squared to Ed Jackson, who made no mistake. Half time 1-2.
The start of the second half meant Wells could use the wind to their advantage and this was the case as on 55 minutes as Waterhouse’s clearance from well inside his own half, sailed over the host goal keeper to extend Wells’ lead. After this, Wells really turned on the style; as they cut through the hosts time and time again, with some incise passing, couple with some high pressing resulting in the rest of the contest being playing the High Littleton’s defensive half. It was only a matter of time before Wells extended their lead, as Plunkett raced onto the loose ball after the host goal keeper could only parry Mike Barnett’s initial effort. The goal of the game came moments later, as Harry Davidson found himself wide on the right. The midfielder, who caused High Littleton problems all afternoon, chipped the ball over the advancing keeper. 3 goals came in the final 10 minutes as Arron Wickham got in on the act as his acrobatic over head kick made it 6, Rob Turner then scored a 7th, tapping home a Wickham corner, with Wickham completing the rout moments later, heading home after a decent Goswell cross wide from the left.
A happy Ryan Morris made his feelings clear after the game as he claimed that ‘in the 2nd half we’ve played some of the best football this A team has ever produced.’
‘This high pressing game is difficult to execute, but we did it as a team. What was most pleasing for me was that they seemed not to be satisfied with scoring 4 or 5. We went for the kill and got what we deserved.’
‘the sheer volume of quality players at my disposal at the moment means I can change it around as I wish, use the whole squad without a worry of weakening it, as everyone is fighting every minute to make sure they are part of it. This is falling for us at the right time, with 3 league games left, 2nd is well in our sights. Plus with the added bonus of a possible cup run, it’s all to play for even at this late stage of the season.’
