A team run riot in final game of a great season...

The final fixture of what has been a good campaign for the A team saw them take the trip up the A39 to face a Clutton Reserve side who found themselves rock bottom of the division. The home side, who started the fixture a man light, found it difficult to get into the game as the A team dominated possession and territory right from the outset. It was only a matter of time before the deadlock was broken and it came on 10minutes as Mike Barnett stroked home a Luke Plunkett cross. Several chances came and went for the away side before Harry Davidson drove home from 18 yards out to make it two. Barnett then grabbed his second, nodding passed the keeper from another Plunkett cross, and he didn't have to wait long for his hatrick tapping home after good work from Brandon Lenarduzzi. Plunkett deservedly got in on the act to make it 5 nil at half time.

The second half became a non event, as the away side were happy just to keep the ball. With the home side now having 11 men of the field, it truly didn't make a difference as the damage was done in the 1st half. Barnett and Plunkett both managed to increase their personal tally 10 minutes into the second half to make it 7 nil. Substitutes Craig Davies and Ed Jackson injected some much needed enthusiasm as Wells A went in search for more goals. However the 8th and final Wells goal belonged to player manager Ryan Morris. With the referee awarding a free kick 30 yards out to the right hand side of the goal, Morris stepped up and curled an unstoppable effort passed the wall and into the top right hand corner. Clutton managed to get in on the act as decent build up play in the middle of the park meant that the central midfielder slid the ball underneath the luckless Bradley Phillips. FT 1-8.

Post match manager Morris heaped praise on the A Teams performance throughout the season.

'Before the season Mr. Loxton gave me and Andy one simple objective. 'Get as many under 18s playing as possible.' At some stage of the season we've seen more youngsters give the A team ago and all have improved us and themselves massively. Youngsters like Harry Davdison, Bailey Waterhouse, Matt Davdison, Luke Plunkett and Luca Hiscox have all benefited massively by playing and all will be recommended for the reserve team at the start of next season, with both Harry and Matt grabbing the attention of the 1st team manager, there's no doubt will be needed for duty at some stage next year for him. Other youngsters like Ed Jackson, Aidan Ellis, Bradley Phillips and Josh Morris have all got vital experience under their belts and will be ready to kick on once next season starts.'

'It's not only the youngsters who have caught the eye. Several players who have previously played in difficult times for the A team like Rob Turner, Brandon Lenarduzzi, Tom Tibbs and Mike Barnett all have upped their game and have contributed massively to the success of this season. With Turner in particular proving that he is too good for mid Somerset and should be considered for the reserve side in the next campaign. Special mention must go to Lee Lester, Ashley Crowther and more recently Matt Rivers breaking into a very talented reserve team after showing great attitude with us.'

'Finally this successful team has been held together by some very talented and experienced players who used their knowledge to guide with these young players. Nick Beales, Arron Wickham, Stephen Griffin, James Phillips-basket, Craig Davies and Kieron White all have contributed massively to this season and I have to thank them for all of their efforts, their patience at times and their input throughout what has been one of the most enjoyable seasons I have ever been involved in.'

'At the moment we're second and unless Frome Collegians win by 13 on Wednesday, we will finish 2nd. But whatever happens, this is a successful season not just for the high league position but for the future of Wells City football club looks a bright one as a result.'
