Batchelor makes it into Colenutt's "6 players to watch" list

Football reporter Merv Colenutt has picked out the six players from Mid Somerset teams that he believes will have a big impact on their sides in 2016...

Jack Malone and Mark Randall (Street): Street are looking a far more solid unit at the back and have become a bit of a fortress in some games. Malone, pictured right, and Randall both have pace on either side of the central defenders and can make clinical tackles when needed. They also have a rare talent to surge forward at pace, which means these two players will have a major input if Street are to gain a top-four finish.

Craig Loxton (Shepton Mallet): It may seem surprising that the name of Craig Loxton crops up in the players to watch, but despite the unfortunate recent loss of points for Shepton Mallet, it is imperative that the likes of Craig Loxton remain loyal to the club. Shepton Mallet are beginning to see the very best from the player and his influence and experience could be vital in sustaining a promotion push next season. Loxton has become a very important cog and his best is still to come.

Sam Jones and Adam Jones (Cheddar): Both players have had their injury problems over the years, but if both remain fit in the second half of the season, then Cheddar will remain a force to be reckoned with in the promotion race. Sam Jones has the pace and guile to drift past defenders with nonchalant ease and score goals out of nothing. Brother Adam, pictured right, puts himself about to great effect, unnerves defenders with his strength and has an eye for goal, not only in the six-yard box, but from distance. They are as important to Cheddar as Sam King and Danny Griffiths at the back.

James Batchelor (Wells City): Another Mark Read import at the start of the season, Batchelor has been a major factor behind Wells City's big strides towards a promotion. He is as good a passer of a ball as there is in Division 1 of the Western League and he also has an eye for goal, scoring in several games this season for the club. Batchelor needs to remain on top of his game if Wells City are to finish the season strongly and creep into the promotion places.
