Tactical changes pay dividends

Management trio Morris, Goswell and Barlow took their merry men to Mells, looking to get back to winning ways after last weeks disappointing cup exit. Going into the game, both sides had an identical league, but it was Wells who dominated the game from start to finish, running out 3-0 winners.

A few tactical changes meant Wells looked more solid, which included debutant Leigh Johnson in goal. The opening exchanges saw wells on the front foot, with chances falling to Kieron White, Lee Lester and Mike Barnett. But all failed to find the back of the net. The break through came with 30 minutes on the clock when Ashley Crowther raced through on goal after playing a one two with White, to slot passed the on rushing goal keeper into the bottom corner. White almost made it two with a thunderous free kick, only to see his effort come off the cross bar.

The second half began just as the 1st ended, with Wells attacking the Mells back line. Barnett made it two nil with a cooly taken chance after being played in by Crowther. 5 minutes later, substitute Matt Rivers headed home a Matt Davidson corner to make it 3-0.

The only disappointing factor of the afternoon saw Wells City's talented youngster Josh Morris hobble off with a nasty looking ankle injury after a heavy challenge by the Mells' right back.

After the match, Morris was particularly pleased with the defensive display of his side, especially after the previous 2 outings which saw Wells concede 8 goals. Alongside the goal keeper, a back three of Lester, Wickham and Savery dealt with everything Mells had as well as setting up attacks with very good possessional play.
