But still questions over the performance

The management team of Wells City saw this as an opportunity to give some of the recent squad players a run in the team this week, as confidence was flowing through the whole squad due to the recent results and performances. An inspired decision as it turned out as 2 players brought in scored a brace each as Wells ran out 6-3 winners.

Wells looked up for this right from the off, and a defence error in the 1st 5 minutes allowed Mike Barnett to race clear and excellently chip the on rushing Matt Dury to put wells one up. 10 minutes later it was two, as Nick Beales slotted a through ball to Barnett who rounded the keeper to place the ball into the empty net. The third came moments later as Rob turner lashed an unstoppable left footer drive into the top corner. 3-0 up and wells looked comfortable. But instead of kicking on, Stoke were allowed to come into the game as they were gifted time on the ball. This was a running theme throughout the game from here on, as Stoke created chances through poor decision making and defensive errors, hitting the post and cross bar in quick succession.

Against the run of play at this stage, Turner scored his second of the game, a header from an excellently taken Charlie Giles corner. Before the half was up, Stoke got s deserved goal for their efforts as Bradley Phillips scare the initial effort on goal, only for the centre forward to follow up and tap in.

A half time change saw Dan Poore introduced and immediately improved things for Wells, who started to build good possession. And it was Poore who scored the 5th with an excellent effort from our side the box. Kieron white got in on the act with Wells' 6th after good work from Ash Crowther. However like the 1st half, Wells let Stoke grab a foot hold in the game. And the last 20 minutes affair was uncomfortable at times for the management team of Morris, Goswell and Barlow. Stoke scored two quick goals in this period, one of them an unfortunate own goal from Lee Lester. Final score 6-3.

Although there was a lot to be positive about, Wells were left with the feeling of what could've been rather than being pleased with what they had achieved. Wells will have to improve in the next couple of weeks if they wish to achieve honours this year.

MOM Rob Turner.
