With a confident display

Wells A team and Broad Plain House had to do it all over again this weekend, due to the abandonment of the original fixture last week. Wells were in a confident mood going into this game, with a good performance last week and a very decent training session behind them. However it was Broad Plain who broke the deadlock early on, as a midfielder runner wasn’t picked up as he raced on to a through ball and he slotted the ball past the on rushing Bradley Philips.

This proved to be the only negative point of the afternoon, as Wells started to dominate the game straight from the re-start. Early chances fell to Kieron White and Ashley Crowther, both perhaps should’ve done better, but it was only a matter of time before Wells got their deserved equaliser. Dan Poore, who was excellent all afternoon, picked out Matt Rivers with a defence splitting pass for the winger to poke home. Moments later, some good play in the middle of the park between youngster Matt Davidson, Nick Beales, Poore and White eventually released Crowther to get his 1st goal of the campaign. Just before half time it was 3-1 as the same two front men combined once again for Crowther to race clear and finish.

The second half began with Wells dominating the possession, with the back 4 of Liam Chant, Peter Vowles, Lee Lester and Jordan Bazely rarely troubled defensively, which meant that Wells could build from the back. As Broad Plain started to tire, chances became more frequent. Only some poor finishing and some very good goalkeeping keeping the score down. Wells rang the changes with Craig Davis, Ross Long, Mike Barnett, Rob Turner and Tom Pledger thrown on to freshen things up. And it was 3 of the substitutes that were involved the 4th Wells goal of the afternoon. Turner and Pledger released White, who unselfishly squared it to Barnett who made no mistake.

The reward for this victory is a tricky home tie against Staplegrove Reserves on the 10th of October.

MOM Peter Vowles.
