points in the bag

City Reserves were looking for the points needed to ease there way closer to promotion and Cleeve were always going to provide a stern test. Wells started on the front foot with the first chance opened up for midfielder Ross Padfield who found space outside the box for his shot to fly over the bar
City forced a corner , Dan Catley curled the ball into the box and as the initial header was saved by the Cleeve keeper only for Sam Andrews to climb highest to head in the rebound in from 4 yards to to give Wells the start they needed and put them one up , 1-0 up.
Cleeve came at Wells and broke with pace on a number of occasions, managing to create a couple of shots but were wide of Steve Coppell's goal and the away team kept the home defence of Sheppard, Russell and Bazley on defensive alert.
Russell then feed a ball into Ryan Pledger who had time to shoot but fired wide of the target, further shots from outside the box from Catley and Padfield failed to trouble the Cleeve keeper

HT Wells City Reserves 1 - 0 Cleeve West Town

Cleeve opened the second half well, and following a brake down the right a shot was half saved by Coppell and the ball fell to the Town striker who looked certain to score but for the timely intervention by Bazley on the line to block the shot on the line.
Charlie Moon and Scott Hurley now started to find some space to run at Town and opening up the away defence on a number of occasions, setting up chances for Andrews and Pledger. Dave Holder played his part throughout in stabilizing the midfield before being replaced by Lee Lester midway through the half as City hoped to hold onto the lead, but Cleeve kept the pressure on by playing the long ball game. The final chance to improve the score fell to Pledger who had created some space in the box but shot wide instead of passing to the impressive Moon who would had the opportunity of a simple tap in the second. Andrews was replaced by Josh Morris late on who showed some promising movement on his reserve team debut.

Win puts City reserves closer to the promotion line and now just require a point from Saturdays final game of the season, at home to Burnham
