back to back wins

Wells Reserves had a midweek trip to the coast to face Burnham Utd knowing that nothing less than 3 points was going to be good enough to keep the chance of promotion alive.

Wells Reserves started in a positive frame following the weekend win, determined to take control of the game against the lowly placed Burnham side. Initial interchanges forced Burnham back, Wells won a free kick just outside the box, James Russell played the dead ball into Dan Catley whose cross picked out George Carey who shot just wide of the right hand post. Following good work from Charlie Crook his pass found Catley in space who moved into onto Ross Padfield to his shot saved by Fowler in the Burnham goal. Further pressure forced a number of corners and from an In swinging cross from the left, Scott Hurley free in the box shot wide.

Some tidy work by Dan Poore in midfield , played a great ball through the channel to Carey whose first time cross was prevented from meeting Sam Andrews by an alert defender

Steve Coppell in the City goal was well protected by Russell, Martyn Sheppard and Jordan Bazley who kept United's front two of Smith and Selway quite, only having to deal with a number of long range efforts without being tested.

Wells broke through came on the 35th minute , a corner from Russell landed at the feet of Crook whose deft pass to Andrews saw the striker fire a cross into the packed box that was cleanly knocked in by Ross Padfield from 6 yards out to give City a well deserved lead, 1-0 up.
Not long later Wells doubled the advantage, on 38 minutes Catley crossed from another corner to Hurley whose fierce shot came back off the bar to land at Padfields feet , who turned and found Catley who from inside the box scored from 8 yards, 2-0 up.

Whilst keeping the pressure on the home defence, Carey picked up a careless booking just before half time

Just after the break, Andrews was played in and beat the offside trap, finding himself one on one with the keeper, he could only see the opportunity go wide without troubling the scorecard.

On 60 minutes , Carey was substituted for the introduction Ryan Pledger who was making his first appearance after a four week lay off through suspension. Pledger got involved straight away with a number of surging runs as Catley and Padfield found time to play the big forward in to keep the Utd defence on their toes. Soon after Charlie Moon and Matty Rivers made appearances as Wells looked to freshen up the attack, replacing Hurley and Andrews.

Chances fell to Moon , as he left the home defence trailing behind with his pace, twisting past the last defender he fired his shot which was tipped over the bar by Fowler in the Burnham goal. Pledge then found Crook on the left side of the box who managed to side step around the defender only to see his shot hit the side netting. Pledger was then set up with an opportunity directly from Wells keeper Coppell, a well found pass fell nicely into the stride of Pledger but again he just shot wide.

An attacking second half by Wells but were unable to add to the total. But this didn't matter in the end as Coppell and the Wells defence claimed their first clean sheet for a while and hold onto to 3 points needed in the promotion race.

A Big thank you to the regular supporters who travel all over to watch the boys play, One Team!
