Wells away trip to Combe St Nicholas set out as a further challenge for point's that have been hard to come by in recent weeks.

Wells looked determined and from the initial exchanges took to take control of the play. With the wind behind and going down the slope, through balls to Sam Andrews and George Carey playing up front together for the first time this season started to make some in roads into the home defence. On 14 minutes the breakthrough came from the early pressure and Wells took the lead. A short ball from keeper Steve Coppell to Jordan Bazley gave Bazley time to pick out head of Andrews with a long ball, whose head on fell into Carey's path and the young forward lobbed the keeper from 22 yards , 1-0 up.
The goal gave the away side increased confidence that has been lacking in recent games, which pushed them forward to go for more goals, which is exactly what happened next as on 19th minute Carey doubled his tally. A bad tackle into the back of Andrews gave Well's a free kick outside the box, Dan Catley's dead ball strike bounced off the keeper and Carey was alert enough to poke the rebound home from 5 yards, 2-0 up.
Combe looked to find there way back into the game, but the solid defence of Jordan Bazley, Martyn Sheppard and James Russell with the presence in goal of the Impressive Coppell kept the clean sheet in the first half. Just before the break, Wells added to the advantage with a ball from Coppell down the right landed at the feet of Carey and an Intelligent run outside of the defender gave him space to cross to the near post and a deft touch from Andrews finished off a slick move, 3-0 up

Following the half time drinks, Wells started in the same groove and found there stride from the first whistle. Playing up the hill, with the movement and passing being maintained, it wasn't long before they pulled away from Combe with a forth goal. Some determined play from the energetic Ross Padfield, winning his personal battle found Andrews in space along the defensive line , he broke through to see him one on one with the keeper, he confidently rounded him to fire the ball home, 4-0 up.
Another positive game and gritty work from the skillful Charlie Crook in midfield set up a number of opportunities for the forwards, and it was down the left that his work won a free kick for consistent Catley to deliver into the Combe box. His low cross was turned in at the near post by Sheppard to open his account for the season. 5-0 up
It a defensive error that gave the home side a opportunity to score from the penalty spot. Combe moved the ball confidently into the box and some smart footwork caught Sheppard by surprise and his miss timed tackle brought down the big striker who stepped up to pull one back for Combe , 5-1 up.
The Introduction of U18 starlet Matty Davidson for Catley in the last half hour gave City some more firepower and he found himself taking on and worrying the Combe defence with his pace down the left wing time after time again.

Wells stepped up again to add a further goal to the total, Davidson and Carey combined to find the perfect cross to Andrews whose downward header was partly saved, and on the spot to finish was the determined Matty Rivers, making another good performance since his step up from the 'A' team , 6-1 up.
The final exchanges saw a number of bookings for the home team as they lost some control, but they grouped together to form a final assault and got them a second goal to the frustrations of the Wells defence. A corner from the right was headed in by the Coombe centre forward, 6-2 up
Wells finished the game well keeping the ball in the Combe half, a deserved win that adds to the points to make promotion, but more of the same is needed if enough points will be gathered to push them over the line.

A big thank you to the travelling support, its great to see you all cheering on the boys! Wells reserves travel to Burnham on Tuesday evening looking for back to back wins.
