Wells vs Easton Gordano

Wells Reserves returned to league action on the back of some great cup performances to face the lowly placed St George Easton in Gordano at home
On a warm day playing in their new home kit and the pitch in great condition, it was set up for a good afternoon and Wells reserves didn't disappoint.

Wells started the game at a high tempo, dominating the initial exchanges and immediately getting into the passing game they have installed in each game so far. Gordano failed to make any impression on the game, giving away a string of corners and defending from the first whistle. Forwards Ryan Pledger and Scott Hurley pressed the away team's defence and were a constant threat to the away teams goal.

Following a break by Gordano, Wells Reserves opened the scoring on 10 minutes on a quick counter attack. Some tidy defending by Dan Barker his quick thinking and pass released James Russell on the left wing and his first time cross was met first time by striker Hurley who rifled his shot into the net from 20 yards to put Wells 1-0 up. Wells continued to control the play with some smart play, though Gordano managed to create a couple of chances of there own as they started to make a mark on the game without troubling Mike Roper too much in the Wells net.

A move that started from Roper nearly saw Wells score a second. A string of passes between Russell, Barker and midfielders Charlie Crook, Dan Catley and on to Ryan Crowther on the right wing, crossed into the box and a spectacular overhead kick from Dave Holder just went wide of the Gordano goal.
Against the run of play, Easton in Gordano leveled on 25 minutes. Skipper Catley failed to control the lose ball in midfield and a neat pass into the Gordano front men saw Barker bring down the forward which on another day could have seen the central defender seeing red. The free kick from 20 yards was struck through the Wells wall giving Roper no chance in goal.

Successive corners from Catley saw Holder, Crowther, Pledger and James Basket having chances to increase the lead without success.

At half time the score remained 1-1 to the disappointment of the home side.

After the break, Wells started the second half in the same manner by controlling the run of play as the away side showed signs of tiredness.

Eventually with some positive play by Catley, he set up Crowther to run through the Gordano defence like a hot knife through butter, and as he set up to shoot laid a perfect pass to Man of the Match Pledger to score from 6 yards out to give Wells a deserved 2-1 lead.

Both teams made the required substitutes, Wells seeing the Introduction of Zak Hall, Ollie Bryant and Tyler Cornish to maintain the pace of the game. And although Gordano managed to force a corner from which Bryant cleared off the Wells line, more pressure was being put on the away side as Wells looked to increase the advantage.

Finally, down at the other end Hall finished off the game to give Wells a 3-1 win. Some smart work from free kick by Catley set up Bryant who's shot from the edge of the box came back off the Gordano keeper and Hall was their to force home the rebound for a deserved win.

Wells Reserves look to continue the good form when they face a Combe St Nicholas next week who sit just below them in the league.
