Well's vs Congresbury

After a successful pre - season the reserves kicked off the first league game away at Congresbury F.C. On a warm dry day the game started slowly with both teams finding it difficult to take any control of the game, defenders Martin Shepherd, Dan Barker and Jordan Bazley kept there nerve from long balls from the opposition and the home defence tested by the pace of the front two of Scott Hurley and Darren Maynard. With just a couple of half chances created in the initial spell, Well's started to work the ball through the midfield with Dave Holder, Skipper Dan Catley and Steve Sokol instrumental as Well's starting to control the game. The first clear opportunity was created in open play and it came from a header form Ollie Bryant steered past the keepers right hand post on 35 minutes. Just after, Scott Hurley found himself in space only to pull the shot wide on 40 minutes, so 0-0 at the break.
The second half started with Well's looking to take control with more urgency in the game. A number of tackles were flying in with at least one opposition player was lucky to stay on the pitch after kicking out at Holder. The referee struggled to keep up with play as the game became more frantic though Well's still wanted to play. The first chance to score was from Maynard following some good work on the right and cross to the near post, header just tipped over the bar. GOAL on 55 minutes from Ollie Bryant to open the scoring for Well's Reserves. Again some sharp build up play on the right between Hurley and Giles saw the ball whipped into Maynard who's shot was saved by the keeper the rebound falling to Bryant's feet 18 yards out who coolly slotted the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. Roper's goal come under threat as Congresbury pushed for the equalise, but a great save by the away teams keeper at the near post kept the score at 1-0.
The Introduction of Charlie Crook for Catley on 53 minutes saw a an exciting piece of play from as he came in off the left wing his maisie run took on 4 or 5 defenders which found himself in the box, only for his run come to an end when Ollie Bryant took the ball of his toe's when it looked like Crook on for Catley would score. Maynard started to find space in the box, and also had a header tipped over the bar before seeing the second goal of the game go in. GOAL on 75 minutes as Maynard used his pace picking up a ball from Barker just inside the opponents half on the left cutting inside the defender before slotting away the finish to the right hand corner from just inside the box. Although Congresbury pressed for the final ten minutes they were unable to break down Roper and the Well's defence os Sheppard , Barker and Savery who came on a substitute for Jordan Bazley remaining solid to the end to see out a good away performance and a 2-0 win on the opening day,
