For the second time in a week

After agreeing to switch the fixture to Friday evening following a request from Langford Rovers, so that they could watch Weston super Mare in the FA Cup, Wells put in possibly their best performance of the season against a young energetic side.
The game started perfectly for Wells when they took the lead inside 2 minutes, when a Steve Emery cross was met by the head of Ryan Crowther who left the keeper no chance. Things got even better on 8 minutes, a trade mark Dan Catley free kick was only parried by the keeper, straight into the path of the advancing Emery, who side footed the ball in to make it 2-0. Wells continued to apply the pressure and although Langford continued to try and play football from the back Wells’ pressing high up the pitch caused the Langford back line to make mistakes and the back line of Mike Roper, Joe Grant, Dan Barker and the impressive Jordan Bazley not really being troubled. On 28 minutes a Crowther cross was wide by Ryan Pledger. With a minute left of the half Scott Hurley could have made it 3 when he turned and shot from the edge of the box but his effort went straight at the keeper. There was still time for Crowther to head over from a Catley corner.
The first 10 minutes of the second half was very much stalemate, but on 58 minutes a great flowing move started with Ryan Morris fed a ball into Catley who flicked the ball onto Hurley who again turned and drilled his shot into the bottom corner to make it 3-0. Wells the made three substitutions in 10 minutes, Sam Andrews replacing Pledger, Dan Poore on for Emery, and Ashley Crowther on for Hurley. Wells could have increased the lead when an Olly Bryant cross was headed goal ward by Morris but the keeper was equal to it. Wells completed the scoring on the stroke of full time when Catley broke free and was upended in the box. The captain picked himself up and coolly dispatched the penalty to make it 4-0.
Man of the match – Jordan Bazley

Manager Mark Phipps said after the game, “This was one of our best performances of the season against a young Langford side who could play football. The lads did everything we asked of them and now we have competition for places, these players have given myself and Barry a selection headache for our next game”
