9 Goal thriller at Gillingham

Debut given to Pledger up top and Wells started the game very brightly. Putting pressure on the Gillingham goal with Hunt heading wide and Manning firing over. On the 25th minute a Gillingham free kick curled to the back post over Roper vollied back across goal and Manning was helpless to only divert the ball into his own net. Gillingham fired in another two to give them a 3-0 lead in the space of 6 minutes. Wells continued to push to get a goal back and made the break through in the 44th minute. A Browner cross was finished nicely by Manning, a side footed volly through the keepers legs.

Second half continued in the same way as the first with Wells pushing to score and Gillingham looking to hit Wells on the break. Chances fell to Hunt and Morgan but they failed to convert. Gillingham caught Wells on the counter and took a 4-1 lead on the 60th minute.
Oakley and Crook came on and Wells switched to a 4 3 3 formation and continued to press. City made the break through on the 80th minute as Hunt broke through and finished nicely under the keeper. Goals quickly followed from Crowther and Manning on the 88th to make it 4-4. Another long throw by Wright was causing problems for Gillingham and they failed to properly clear the ball, Sox returned the ball into the box which fell to Browner who finished well to complete a dramatic come back in stoppage time. A great all round team performance and a well deserved 3 points for City.
