Wincanton 2 - Wells City 2

Wells City still need to pick up one win from their final two games to be assured of promotion from Western League Division One.

The bank holiday 2-2 draw at Wincanton Town still leaves them with work to do, after Mark Read's side came back from a 2-1 down at the interval to gain a point.

City have now only taken two point from of a possible nine in their last three games, but Read remains totally focused in getting his side over the line.

"Our destiny is now still in our own hands and those two points could still prove very crucial," said Read. "The lads have had to work hard with all the injuries and illness, look at Cheddar how they have suffered with injuries, both Sam and Adam Jones have been great losses and we have gone through the same hoop."

"We are all remaining focused on getting that promotion, we would love to play and compete at places like Bristol Manor Farm, Shepton Mallet and Street, it's what the people of Wells deserve.

"We have three games left, two in the league and a cup final, so it is all to play for, it is exciting times and it has been a hard long season, but we have to get Wells City back on the map as a leading side.

"The injuries and the illness that has spread through the team, all came at the wrong time, we could have lost all three games in that period, but we have hung in there, dug deep and picked up points whereas last season we have gone down without a whimper."

City took an early lead at Wincanton when Lee Pitman scored from the penalty spot following a tackle from behind on James Batchelor in the penalty area.

Wincanton then equalised midway through the first half with a Connor Williams strike before taking the lead just before the break with a freak Jamie Stewart goal.

Wells City came back strongly in the second half, but they had to wait until the 80th minute to force an equaliser when a James Batchelor shot was parried by Stewart and Pitman followed up to score the crucial equaliser.

Man of the match was awarded to James Batchelor
