Wells City 2 - Almondsbury UWE 0

A wreath in memory of former Wells City favourite Darren Padfield was laid in the centre circle prior to kick off following his sad passing on Friday with players and supporter's alike, standing for a minute's silence.

The game itself got off to a slow start with the visitors edging the game in terms of possession as there shape initially was causing a few problems to the Wells City backline.

The home side eventually got to grips with the midfield area and they were to take the lead on 32 minutes when Jake Brown produced a fine run as he skipped by two defenders before setting up Lee Pitman who found the corner of the net with a fine effort from the edge of the penalty area.

From that moment Wells City controlled the game with the visitors becoming far less of a threat.

Wells never really looked like surrendering their lead, but a solitary goal advantage always looks vulnerable, but in the 72nd minute the goal that Wells City had been threatening came from James Batchelor and it came courtesy of a Lee Pitman corner.

It was a goal straight from the training ground as Pitman's corner kick was swept home by Batchelor from the edge of penalty box.

Manager Mark Read said after the game "it was a difficult day for all involved and the game petered out and this is very understandable as so many have been affected by Daren's passing. It was an emotional day for everyone, especially the family who attended the game."
