Radstock Town 0 - Wells City 3

Promotion chasers Wells City closed in on the top of the Toolstation Western League Division One with a comfortable away victory over Radstock Town.

City put themselves within touching distance of first placed Chipping Sodbury Town with the 3-0 win and just a point now separates the two sides - although Wells have three games in hand.

The belief within the City camp is high and the early stages at Radstock saw the visitors take the lead on just four minutes as Mike Grist scored with a left foot shot following a Lee Pitman corner.

The remainder of the half was fairly low key on a difficult pitch and although Wells had the greater share of possession they did not really take advantage of the chances being created.

The away side were finding it a little difficult to cope with the shape of the Radstock set up and manager Mark Read was forced into a few positional changes at the start of the second half as he looked to nullify the hosts' set pieces.

Wells eventually doubled their advantage on 48 minutes when Lee Pitman produced a moment of brilliance as he lobbed the ball over two defenders before sending an unstoppable shot into the back of the net from 18 yards.

The game was all but over on the hour when Pitman was left in a one-on-one with the keeper and the striker easily slotted the ball home to give City a 3-0 advantage.

Wells City now have two home games at home to middle of the table Almondsbury on Saturday followed by a fixture with Oldland Abbotonians on Tuesday evening with the visitors still on the periphery of promotion themselves, kick off is at 7.30.

Man of the match was awarded to Sam Gerrish
