Wells make it 6 wins in a row with 2 goals from Brown

Promotion chasers Wells City picked up a sixth consecutive win with a comfortable victory over Warminster Town in the Western League First Division.

The last time that Wells failed to pick up a victory was at Cheddar on Boxing Day and they have since moved into the top six with games in hand, with their winning run putting them in contention.

City made the best possible start by controlling all areas of the park and their possession and patience proved worthwhile when they took the lead on 37 minutes when Jake Brown dribbled his way into the Warminster penalty area before firing a low shot past the keeper.

The home side were then reduced to ten men as a defender clashed with Brown and referee Paul Davies showed a straight red card, leaving Warminster with an uphill battle in the second half.

The visitors eventually doubled their lead after the break when Leon Britton was upended in the Warminster penalty area and Lee Pitman scored from the spot.

Wells City dominated until the end of the game and they added a third in the final minute when Brown glided past two defenders before slotting the ball into the back of the Warminster net.

"We are on a really good run, but we must not get carried away with ourselves, we have to continue to work hard and play week by week and concentrate on our results, there is still a long way to go," said assistant manager John Allen.

"We have a great togetherness in our squad and again we need to retain that between now and the end of the season.

"It's going to take a big team effort to stay in the promotion race, but I feel sure we have the character to do just that".
