Chippenham Park 4 - Wells City 2

Wells City manager Mark Read expressed disappointment with his side's second half display, after they let a 2-1 lead slip as three goals in the final third of the game ensured Chippenham Park moved into the top half of the Western League Division One table.

City had looked the better side during the early exchanges as Lee Pitman put them ahead from a free-kick, but the home side got themselves back on level terms just before the half-time break with a Darrin Moss strike.

Wells regained the lead early in the second half when James Batchelor scored with a fine effort and at that point the visitors appeared to be coasting, but the game changing goal however came midway through the second half when Mark Robinson was given too much space and scored from close range.

The away side tried to push for a late winner but were caught on the counter attack on two occasions and they were punished twice in the last ten minutes as Robinson got his second of the game and Lewis McCarron wrapped up the victory for Chippenham Park.

"It has happened before with us we get our noses in front and it then appears we get to complacent, sit back and believe the game is their for the taking and against decent sides like Chippenham Park you get punished and that's what happened," said Read.

"We worked hard in the first half and probably deserved to be ahead at half time and although it was level pegging, we got ourselves in front early in the second half, unfortunately our work rate dropped from that point and once they had equalised we were left chasing the game as we looked for a winner.

"Chippenham Park then scored two late goals and you have to say they deserved to win the game as we couldn't raise our game when we needed too.

"At 2-1 we should have stamped our authority on the game, but we didn't and you have to say that is very disappointing on our part.

"If we are to remain in the pack as a team that are looking to gain promotion, we have to go on and win these games when you are 2-1 ahead and you have to remain focused, we didn't and that is why we lost the game."

Wells City will be looking to bounce back on Saturday as they visit Ashton and Backwell.
