4 goals, including 2 from Jake Brown, secure 3 points

After a disappointing 1-0 lose at Corsham on Tuesday night, Wells City came back fighting with an away victory at Almondsbury UWE on Saturday. The mid-week clash had seen Wells dominate the play and have the majority of the chances, but an outstanding display from Corsham keeper, Mark Billingham, meant that a swift counter-attacking goal from Matt Jenkins was enough to seal the points for the home side

So to Saturday's game, and Wells started with a flourish of quick passes and big tackles. In the 6th minute the ball was moved down the left by James Russell into Jake Brown, who squared the ball into James Batchelor's path. Batchelor needed only one touch to control the ball, and then riffled the ball home from 25 yards out.

The second saw James Russell turn provider again, but this time, Jake Brown dribbled the ball past the Almondsbury wing back and slotted home his opportunity. Almondsbury had a number of corners and 1 clear chance in the first half, but Man of the Match Will Justin was equal to the task in the Wells City goal.

H/T: Almondsbury 0 - Wells City 2

Although Wells started the second half the same way they had started the first, they could not turn their possession and chances into goals. This allowed Almondsbury back into the game. Will Justin continued to save Wells time and time again, but there was little he could do when Almondsbury scored their only goal of the game through Geriant Williams. A number of tackles were missed by the Wells midfield and Williams scored from inside the Wells box.

At this point, Justin really did show why he deserved the MoM award. The Wells defence and Justin played outstandingly for the next 15 minutes to ride the wave of pressure the home side were creating. But with Almondsbury committing man forward, gaps started to appear at the back, and the introduction of Mitch Purnell spelt the end of the Almondsbury attack. Purnell created 3 excellent opportunities for the Wells strikers and they finally took the third. Purnell played an tremendous ball forward into the run of Batchelor, who knocked the ball to the side of the keeper. With defenders approaching him, Batchelor squared the ball to an unmarked Brown who side footballer the ball into an open net.

In the 80th minute, Wells ended all hopes of an Almondsbury comeback when Adam Holcombe drilled home Wells City's 4th goal, after some great work from Britton.

Wells City manager, Mark Read, said "we are pleased to get back to winning ways after the defeat at Corsham. The team has fantastic character, but the performances of Justin, Grist, Padfield and Purnell show we now have the depth we were so desperately missing last year."
