Wells City First Team Go Top

Wells City first team made it 3 wins in 3 to go top of the Toolstation first Division on Saturday.

Wells dominated the opening exchanges with some excellent spells of position. The team were rewarded with a sublime finish from Leon Britton. The midfielder let fly a 30 yard strike into the bottom corner to open the scoring for Wells.

The opposition made their first opportunity count when Wells failed to track the midfield runners from a long free kick. Calne's central midfielder Kris Beasley knocked in from 6 yards out after the ball was initially won by an Calne attacker.

Wells then went on to score 2 fantastic goals from Lee Pitman. The first was very similar to
Brittons. Pitman cut in from the left hand side and drilled the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the goal, past the out stretched Calne keeper. A few minutes later, Pitman latched onto a cross field ball from Brown and dribbled past two Calne defenders to slot the ball home.

The second half was a much closer affair, with both teams having equal parts of the play and opportunities.

Calne's second goal came from a corner which wasn't cleared properly by the Wells defence. The ball was headed home by Neurin Jones to give the away side some belief they could steal a point, but Wells continued to attack and got a deserved penalty in the 82 minute when Brown was fouled in the box. Pitman stepped up to complete his hat-trick and win the game for the home side.
