Great game to watch for big crowd

Wells welcomed league leaders Wincanton town to the athletic ground on Saturday in front of a large crowd including ex Wells players who had a lunch and drinks before the game, they were highly entertained as both teams played some great football, Wells had to defend well as the visitors started well hitting the post on their first effort, a Tom Manning free kick to the feet of Jamie Howson was layed back to James Russell whose cross was side footed just wide by Darren Maynard, Wincanton continued to put the ball into the box but Alex Henderson claimed everything in the air, Wells attacked down the left with Jake Brown who set up James Russell whose brilliant far post cross was smashed in by Howson for 1-0 Wells on 34 mins, both teams had half chances from long range but Wells saw out the half with the lead.
Wells new they had to stay strong as Wincanton would come out strong after the break, and a corner on the right brought the equalizer as the towering centre back headed home for 1-1, Wells should have retaken the lead when Maynard out muscled his marker but his effort went just wide, from the goal kick the visitors took the lead when the forward controlled and set up his midfielder whose long range shot nestled in the corner for 2-1 Wincanton, Wells fought hard to get the leveler and were rewarded right on the final whistle when a great free kick from Russell was to hot for the keeper to handle who could only push the ball in to the net 2-2 and the finish to a great game.
