Wells continued their good run of results with a win against Wellington in the Somerset Premier cup 1st round, Sam Andrews was able to rotate his squad giving the subs and other players a chance to prove themselves and to see the depth of his squad.
Wells started well attacking down the right with Toby Cole but his cross was well cleared by the defence, Wells were then forced to make a change with Gavin Eyre being replaced by Harry Lewis after only 8 mins, Tom Manning then put a freekick into the box which was put just wide by Toby Cole, Wellington broke down the right and gained a corner after a tackle from Charlie Crook, Lee Begg then cleared the corner for Toby Cole to run onto but his effort was well blocked by the defender, Jason Loxton then had his shot saved by the away keeper, Wellington were then on the attack but a great tackle from Charlie Crook set up another attack for wells with Jamie Howson playing in Toby Cole who ran the ball out of play, Wells then came close to opening the scoring when a freekick by Tom Manning was headed against the post by the defender, from the resulting corner Francis Rolli's effort was well saved by the keeper to keep the scores level as the half time whistle goes 0-0.
Wells continued to attack after the break with great play from Tom Manning and Ross Padfield who set up Toby Cole to shoot but his effort hit the crossbar, Toby Cole was in the action again when his shot hit the side netting, he then set up Jamie Howson hit a shot just wide, Ryan Crowther then hit a great cross ball to Francis Rolli who passed to Jamie Howson who turned and hit his shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net for 1-0 Wells goal timed at 65 mins, Wells attacked at will and Toby Cole had another effort well saved by the visiting keeper, Wells then made another change with Steve Sokol who is returning from injury replacing the hard working Ross Padfield in midfield, Wellington attacked down the left but the cross was punched away by Mike Roper in the Wells goal and from the punch Wells broke down the centre with Tom Manning who crossed to Ryan Crowther but his header went just over the bar, Wells made their last change with youngster James Russell making his first team debut replacing Jason Loxton, Wellington then produced a good save from Mike Roper but the ball bobbled around in the box and the striker hit the ball past Roper for 1-1, Wells had a couple of chances to finish the game but the referee ended the 90 mins with the scores level at 1-1.
Extra time began with Wellington attacking but found Mike Roper in good form punching another effort away, Wells had an effort blocked by the defender which brought the half to an end.
Wells then upped their game in the 2nd half of extra time with a great cross from James Russell but Tom Manning's header was well saved by the visiting keeper, Wellington the had a shot at goal but was well wide, Wells then scored a great goal with Ryan Crowther running at the defence his shot was well blocked but the ball fell to Jamie Howson who hit an unstopable shot in to the back of the net to give Wells a deserved lead on 110 mins 2-1 Wells, Wells then went to close the game and were rewarded again on 119 mins with a great header from Charlie Crook beat the Wellington defence for Jamie Howson to complete his hat-trick and a great win 3-1 Wells.
