A changed squad saw Wells line up in a 4 4 2 formation with a debut given to Mike Wright in defence. Wells were taking on Ilfracombe Town in the Les Phillips Cup, looking to get back to winning ways.
Wells were solid first half, trying to catch Ilfracombe on the break. City went into half time 0-0 thanks to some excellent stops by Ray Johnston. Second half Wells pushed a lot higher up the pitch and were creating more chances but failed to break through and it was 0-0 at fulltime.

Ilfracombe took the lead 5 minutes into Extra time, a through ball that the striker ran onto and looped the ball over Ray into an empty goal. Wells hit back 4 minutes later with a neat passing move where Steve Sokol slipped the ball through for Joe Morgan to run onto and finish. Ilfracombe took the lead again 5 minutes later a cross into the box was headed in well from the penalty spot. City pushed to get another goal but failed to do so and the game finished 2-1 to Ilfracombe, which could have been more if not for some heroics from Ray Johnston.
