| Saturday 12th December 2009Wells City Reserves 2 - 0 Cheddar ReservesWells got back to winning ways after some poor performances away from home, but a slightly better team display earned three points in a local derby against Cheddar Reserves.Wells started well and attacked down both flanks, with Liam Chant and Jordan Bazley feeding the front two of Chris Sheard and Dan Catley. The hosts took the lead through a great strike from Sheard on the turn from 25 yards out that gave the keeper no chance.Cheddar then had a chance to equalise from the penalty spot after Matt Sparkes-Brown was adjudged to have fouled an opponent in the penalty area, but Jamie Rothwell in goal, pulled off a great save to deny the Cheesemen. However, Wells unfortunately lost Sparkes-Brown with a dislocated shoulder from the foul, but they then had a chance to pull further ahead when they were awarded penalty. But on this occasion it was the Cheddar keeper's turn to deny the Blues after he saved Dan Catley's well-struck spot-kick.The rest of the half was a stalemate and the second half started as the first had finished, with both teams cancelling each other out and few chances at either end.Wells then made two substitutions, with Brad Hibbert and Fabio Ramos replacing Chant and Bazley and the switch worked wonders. With a minute to go, a throw-in was flicked on by Ramos to Catley, who controlled the ball with his chest and, with an overhead kick, hit the top corner to give Wells the 2-0 win they deserved. Saturday 24th October 2009Backwell Utd Reserves 0 - 1 Wells City ReservesWells travelled to Backwell with another changed squad with call ups to the 1st team and injuries but the long awaited return of Mike Charlton and 2 new signings Fabio Ramos and Ben Higgins produced another good performance, Wells started well with some good play from Higgins and the Catley's Neil and Dan but again Wells had most of the 1st half play but couldn't find the Backwell net,but Wells came out after the break looking for goals with the midfield running the game it was only a matter of time before Wells scored and a deflected free-kick feel to the feet of Ramos who side footed past the home keeper, Wells as in previous weeks could not finish the game off allowing Backwell more space to play but good goal-keeping from Williams and defending by Charlton, King and Chant kept the score to 1-0 and manager Sam Andrews was pleased with the 3 new players performance and the 3 points against a well organised Backwell side. Saturday 10th October 2009Yatton Athletic 5 - 1 Wells City ReservesAfter a fine run of results Wells with key players stepping up to the 1st team put in a poor performance against top of the table Yatton who's attackers have scored 20 goals in 7 games. Wells found themselves a goal down after 25 min's from a corner then another set piece made it 2-0, Wells had a 15 min spell where Pledger pulled a goal back but Yatton always looked dangerous on the break but could not increase their lead before half time.Yatton came out strong after the break and quickly made it 3-1, Wells were know chasing shadows as Yatton attacked at will increasing their lead further with another set piece then round of with a penalty to make it 5-1 Wells had no reply to a well organised title favourites, the only positive thing was a welcome return of Sam Andrews for a cameo 15 min's after a long layoff. Wells need to start believing in themselves if they want to look at promotion this season. Saturday 3rd October 2009Wrington Redhill 0 - 2 Wells City ReservesWells travelled to Wrington expecting a hard game looking at the league positions but found it fairly easy with Liam Williams only making 1 save during the 90 min's, the high winds played a big part in the game as a rearranged back line of King, Sparks-Brown and Chant never looked in danger as Wrington had only one tactic the long ball, Wells settled in playing their passing game with Steve Griffin, Dan Catley and Martyn Sheppard winning the midfield battle playing great passes for Mike Barnett and Steve Spencer to run on to, it was Dan Catley's through ball that opened the scoring for Wells with a well taken goal from Spencer. Wells were then gifted a goal from a defensive mistake Steve Spencer setting up Mike Barnett who with a great strike made it 2-0 just before half time.Wells again settled early after the break causing problems down both flanks with non stop running from Brad Hibbert and Jordan Bazley but again like the last 2 games Wells could not add to their first half goals although creating many chances, Wells were then forced in to a late change with the hard working Griffin being replaced by Tom Hawkin's,manager Sam Andrews added "we were easy winners but need to kill games off in the 2nd half but overall a good performance". Saturday 26th September 2009Weston St Johns 0 - 0 Wells City ReservesWells travelled to Weston again and came away with a point in a game they could have won. Wells started well, putting pressure on a very good Weston team but again were unable to find the opening goal from good running from Spencer and Mackay. Wells’ new signing Demster King from Glastonbury put in a man of the match debut performance at sweeper behind Matt Sparks-Brown and Pete Vowles who never looked troubled from the Weston attackers. Wells did have the ball in the Weston net only to be given offside. In the 2nd half Wells again started well with Spencer hitting the bar from 20 yards but Wells again created plenty of chances but could not find a goal to take all 3 points and had to settle for another draw but on the positive side 2 draws away from home against 2 very good teams is better than 2 defeats. Saturday 19th September 2009Westlands Utd 2 - 2 Wells City ReservesWells travelled to Weston super-Mare to play top of the table Westlands,Wells full of confidence after a good result the previous week started well and for the first 20 min's were the better side causing problems down both flanks with Brad Hibbert and Jordan Bazley, the front pair of Dan Catley and Ben Mackay getting in good positions could not find the net, it was Neil Catley who broke the deadlock with a low shot from 25 yards into the bottom corner,Then Dan Catley made it 2-0 from the spot after Mackay was pulled down in the box, Wells had more chances to kill the game but with strange decisions from the home linesman and referee stopped Wells from increasing their lead.Wells started slow after the break conceding after just 8 min's but continued to go forward looking to finish the game off but with 15 min's to go Westlands equalised with a shot from 20 yards giving Liam Williams no chance, Westlands were then in control of the game with Williams making some great saves to give Wells a disappointing away point, Manager Sam Andrews said " We probably would have taken 1 point before the game against top of the table away from home but felt we lost 2 points ". Saturday 22nd August 2009Wells City Reserves 3 - 1 Long AshtonWith 2 defeats in a row the return of manager Sam Andrews (holiday) couldn't come quick enough as a few home truths shocked the team in to a great performance against a physical Ashton squad. Wells started the game well playing attractive football causing problems down both flanks with Jordan Bazley and Brad Hibbert the latter crossing for Dan Catley to score from close range. Wells, with some great saves from Liam Williams and defensive play from Matt Sparks-brown, Liam Chant and Pete Vowles giving them a 1-0 lead at half time. After a strong talking to at the break Wells came out looking for more goals and a great cross field pass from Dan Catley found Jordan Bazley whose shot from 25 yards hit the bottom corner making it 2 v 0, but Ashton did not give up by scoring a well worked goal, this woke Wells and debut sub Ben Mackay scored Wells 3rd from good work by the midfield of Ryan Morris, Steve Griffin and Neil Catley, this hopefully will kick start the season for Wells. Saturday 29th August 2009Creech St Michael 3 - 2 Wells City ReservesAfter a poor performance against Congesbury, Wells were hoping to get back on track against Creech. Wells looked the better side for the first 15 min's but could not find the back of the net, it was Creech who scored first with a low shoot through a crowd of players giving Liam Williams no chance, but yet again a defensive mistake gifted Creech a 2nd before half time. Wells started the 2nd half a little better and rewarded with a great strike from Steve Griffin from just outside the box, but always' chasing the game Wells conceded a 3rd. Arron Wickham then narrowed the gap with a penalty late on after Jordan Bazley was brought down, But again Wells ran out of time but looked strong till the end.The reserves would like to thank Barry Maynard and Dave Green for their help and good luck to their "A" team squad. Saturday 22nd August 2009Wells City Reserves 2 - 3 CongesburyAfter the successful result midweek Wells put in a poor display against Congesbury making 3 mistakes conceding 3 goals. Wells took the lead after Jordan Bazley was brought down in the box for a penalty which Dan Catley put away with ease, Wells then found themselves 2-1 down by halftime.Wells started slowly after the break conceding another goal, But on the positive side Wells didn't give up and the game changed when Griffin was brought on, Wells started to control the game and were rewarded with a great strike from Neil Catley hitting the bottom corner of the net, Wells pressed for an equaliser but ran out of time. Wednesday 19th August 2009Wells City Reserves 2 - 0 ChurchillWells playing their first game at home and under lights and a large crowd, they showed their true potential with a great display against good opposition in Churchill. Wells settled down early playing attractive football from defence to attack. Wells’ first goal came from a great cross from Malone which Sandquest hit on the run from 20 yards out with his thigh giving the visiting keeper no chance.Wells carried on where they left off after the break and were rewarded with a training ground goal from a corner by Neil Catley reaching Dan Catley at the back post to hit home no 2 for Wells.Churchill never really posed a threat to the Wells back line of Matt Sparkes-brown, Pete Vowles and Liam Chant with Liam Williams only having to make 1 save during the game. Saturday 15th August 2009Combe St Nicholas 0 - 0 Wells City ReservesWells Reserves started the season with a 40-mile trip to Combe and returned with a useful point and plenty of positives. The game started slowly with both teams trying to play passing football on a good surface.Wells created the first real chance of the game when Jake Brown ran onto a through ball by Neil Catley but a last-ditch tackle meant he couldn't quite get his shot away.Combe struggled to create chances in the first half with the Wells back line of Liam Chant, Pete Vowles and Matt Sparks-Brown continuing their good form.In the second half the visitors decided to attack using the long ball, trying to catch out the Combe defence with the pace of Mike Barnett and Jake Brown. This tactic paid off as chances started to come more regularly. The introduction of two substitutes also made a big difference with Andy Sparks showing good composure on the ball and Ryan Pledger hitting the post with a chip over the keeper.Although Wells were unable to get the all- important goal they can be pleased with the performance and look to build on this result.
